The use of satellite imagery and advanced monitoring technologies will allow for accurate and prompt monitoring of air quality across the country as well as the possibility to disseminate the information using smart technologies and foster the process to assist in achieving the environmental goals stated in the country’s 2021 plan as well as fall in line with guidance issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to ensure Smart Government services to all.
Here, we propose to build upon the previous achievements and expand the same lines of work to ultimately establish a comprehensive and robust system for the monitoring of air quality conditions in the UAE that is based on satellite imagery, numerical models, and in situ observations. These advanced tools will be in heart of a reliable monitoring system of air quality across the country which will aid identifying sources, both global and local, providing vital data that will assist in the enhancement of air quality and contribute towards the UAE’s progress and leadership vision to place it among the world’s best countries by 2021.
